Annie Maloney
Proprietor
Sweet Annie's family roots in the candy business began at the end of Prohibition. During the roaring 20's up until 1933, Annie's Great Aunt Margaret was an established bootlegger in South Philadelphia. Known for brewing the best "Bathtub Gin" in town. Throughout the 36th Ward, she became popular with a new generation of customers, when after Prohibition she turned her popularity and well-known address into a candy store. Located at the corner of 22nd and Mifflin streets, across from St. Edmonds Grade School, Margaret and her husband Frank, catered to hundreds of neighborhood children every week. Margaret and Frank operated the store for 25 years up until 1958 when they retired.
Fast Forward to 2019. Having lived in the Ambler/Lower Gwynedd community for 4 years, Annie dreamed of opening a business that would become an integral part of the community while bringing a dose of joy and happiness to it's residents.
With the simple suggestion from her oldest son Liam for "A Candy Shoppe", the idea for Sweet Annie's was born - and a family tradition continued!
At Sweet Annie's, our goal is to provide high quality and full-flavored confections, chocolates, and macarons from across the globe, in our own hometown. We also offer a variety of gift baskets, birthday and event favors, and corporate gift baskets.
In October of 2021 we expanded our Shoppe to include a new gift section- Sweet Annie's "Home SWEET home".
We now offer a variety of home decor and gift items. Including candles, tea towels & trinkets, Tea/Coffee/Honey, children's books and toys. As well as cards and stationary to compliment any purchase. Our confections and gifts are available for local delivery and we ship nation-wide.
